Want to make a pdf file ? Cannot find any free pdf making software ?

Adobe Acrobat Reader can only open PDF files, but you cannot make PDF files using it. And Adobe Writer professional costs a lot of money. So, here is a list of free options to make PDF files from Word .doc documents or any file which can be printed ( there is a software which acts like a printer and makes pdf files instead of printing )

If you want to just quickly convert a Microsoft Word DOC file to a PDF, then the easiest would be to use an online free Word to PDF conversion facility. Here is a bunch of good sites which convert WOrd files to Adobe Acrobat PDF files. (PDF might be required to some DTP printers, many university projects, etc)

Good site, Has the option to browse for the file, upload and convert. This service enables you to convert Microsoft (R) Word documents (.doc) into Adobe (R) Portable Document Format (.pdf) documents.
You can also convert Powerpoint and Excel files to PDF. Powerpoint files can also be converted to Flash. This service is free.

Similar to the previous one, but this dude has https which means a secure connection. So, if you ware converting some plans for a top secret nuclear warhead and don’t want it to fall into enemy hands, or if you just like all the security, use this site.

You need a working email address so that the converted file can be emailed to you. It is done quickly, the email comes with the PDF.

Just upload the fiel, give your email address, and its ready. Fast PDF is a web-based service that lets you convert Microsoft Word documents to PDF! The PDF format makes it easy to share documents with others and ensures that they will look the way you intended. Did any of you have this particular problem ? A webpage showing text in the reverse direction.

In my orkut.com home page, the Today’s Fortune :  and a few recent visitors are displayed in the reverse direction. Mirrored.

So it appears like “this sriaffa lanosrep ruoy ni kcul doog evah syawla lliw uoY :enutrof s’yadoT”

The actual thing is : Today’s fortune: You will always have good luck in your personal affairs

I solved this for the moment, but for a complete solution orkut has to specify the text encoding in their pages. In my orkut home page

If you host a blogger blog, on your Blogger dashboard (requires login) on the right side you might have seen some Blogs of Note.

Blogger staff seems to surf around notable and popular Blogger blogs and list them on the Blogs of Note. Just in case you were wondering if you could get you blog listed there and visited by thousands of Blogger users, there is a way. You can suggest a Blog of Note.

For example, if you like reading my blog and would like to suggest it to other readers, you can click the button next to “I want to recommend a blog of note”.

A new form will open where you can enter a url like http://johndafundas.blogspot.com/ in my case and click send.
You can even recommend your own blog as a Blog of note and hope you make it to the list.

The latest wordpress update was out 2 days back, and I just finished updating.

If you need help in upgrading your version of wordpress, it is available at the wordpress.org official site.

Anyway, you just deactivate all plugins ( to be safe) , replace the old files with the new files, and then run the upgrade.php file

Three Step Upgrade

These are the short instructions, if you want more check out the extended upgrade instructions.

For these instructions, it is assumed that your blog’s URL is http://example.com/wordpress/. Note that during the upgrade process access to your blog may not work for your visitors. You may consider a plugin like Maintenance Mode.

Step 0: Before You Get Started

• Just in case something goes wrong, make sure you have a backup. WordPress_Backups is a comprehensive guide.
• Deactivate your plugins. A plugin might not be compatible with the new version, so it’s nice to check for new versions of them and deactivate any that may cause problems. You can reactivate plugins one-by-one after the upgrade.

Step 1: Replace WordPress files

1. Get the latest WordPress. Either download and extract it to your computer or download it directly to the server.
2. Copy the new files to your server, overwriting old files. You may use FTP or shell commands to do so.

NOTE   The wp-content folder requires special handling, as do the plugins and themes folders. You must copy over the contents of these folders, not the entire folder. Copying the entire folder overwrites all your customizations and added content.

Also take care to preserve the wp-config.php file in the root directory, as it contains your database sign-in information. Do note though that usually this will not be a problem since in a new installation the config file will be named wp-config-sample.php.

Step 2: Upgrade your installation

1. Visit the upgrade page. It will be at a URL like http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php. This updates your database to be compatible with the latest code, and before you do this your blog might look funny.

Step 3: Do something nice for yourself

If you have caching enabled, your changes will appear to users more immediately if you clear the cache at this point (and if you don’t, you may get confused when you see the old version number in page footers when you check to see if the upgrade worked).

Your WordPress installation is successfully upgraded. That’s as simple as we can make it without Updating WordPress Using Subversion.

Consider rewarding yourself with a blog post about the upgrade, reading that book or article you’ve been putting off, or simply sitting back for a few moments and let the world pass you by.
