YouTube is a phenomenon. It has turned all those couch potatoes into mouse potatoes.

Couch potatoes are those who sit watching TV all day, while mouse potatoes are people who sit at their computer all day. (all day is an exaggeration, but you get the point)

All those TV addicts who finished channel surfing and watching everything on all the hundreds and thousands of TV channels, now have more – much more than they can ever imagine.

Behold the power of the internet and lots of camera wielding amateurs !

But how do you download these files for later viewing ? You can’t stay connected to the net forever. Not everyone has a high bandwidth connection. The video pauses every now and then when it streams and you wait till it is fully streamed, you can see it till you go to another page or close that window. Annoying huh ?

How can I download a Youtube flash video ?

UTube videos cannot be downloaded like other .swf files. They will have to be converted to flv flash video files.

3 fundas to download YouTube videos

1) Firefox extension

Wonderful and excellent solution especially if you are using the same computer !

Install Firefox from Mozilla.


It is definitely the best browser I’ve used. And you can add so many extensions to it to make it do whatever you wan. Inbuilt FTp, weather, news, live RSS, YouTube Downloader, Flash .swf downloader. MP3 ripper, much more.
If you want much much more, get the Google Pack.

Then , install the firefox add on to download YouTube videos

You are done ! Restart Firefox and go to Youtube and download by clicking the button on the bottom.
2) Use a website

Quick and useful if you are using a public computer.

This is if you want to download and install and then use a software – I don’t think this is necessary. But maybe they give some extra functions – tell me if you find any use .

Or FLV player or the small Wimpy’s FLV player

Looks like Google has something up its sleeve. Some major upgrade for the Calendar App ??? Doesn’t tell us what it is or how or why or anything but You know Google – it’s probably that’ll change the world. Wait and see.

I saw this file OfcpfSvcs.exe running in the processes tab of Windows Task manager.

Looks suspicious – I’m not going to trust any file which I can’t confirm is a system file. Especially if it’s run by the user or admin and not system.

Maybe its a malicious virus which gets into all your pen drives and hangs your computers and destroys your data. Or maybe it’s just a harmless system file which runs in some computers alone. Because I checked inanother computer with the exact same configuration of software and this was not there.

Definitely a suspicious file – probably a virus. I’m killing it.

There – gone. Now I can safely run the virus scan a see if the antivirus can detect it.

Here, use Norton Antivirus and AntiSpyware free versions from Google. It’s not a time limited trial ersion. Select the software you want from Google Pack. – Firefox, Norton Antivirus, Google Earth, .. Use the antivirus well.

Antivirus software is absolutely essential . Use it.

Orkut.com – the social networking site of Google. It has become famous – popluar enough to have viruses run specifically for it !

But the problem I address here is that Orkut asks me to install missing plugins.

That Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page.

When I do click it takes me to the Plugin Finder Service ( I’m using Mozilla Firefox) and tells me to install Adobe Flash Player (Macromedia was bought by Adobe)

Why does Orkut need flash player anyway ? There are no flash animations of any thing like that in Orkut , right !

Well, if you look at the code carefully, you’ll find some flash at the friends list and the testimonials – userdata.swf

What does it do ? Why is it there ? Find out ! And tell me …
